The Master Plan (for Romance Writing)

romancevsplanningI love planning…almost as much as I love romance writing!

I’m the type who uses multiple calendars, online planners, paper journals, and cell phone apps to keep my daily grind grinding.  So when I decided that it was time to get a new pen name for some fab romance ideas, I said, “Woo hoo! Planning!”

Well, part of me did.

The creative side, the part in charge of creating said romance writing, balked. My muse does not want to be told what to do. My muse wants to have fun writing whatever and whenever it pleases. It wants to binge on Netflix and chocolate, not necessarily in that order.  Since I’m also a reader, however, this sort of serendipitous approach to romance writing would drive me steaming bonkers. I need my book fix, and I need it on time! So my muse and I needed a master plan.

The Plan for Romance Writing:

  1. Get a new pen name that may or may not be a lot like smooshing together my name and my husband’s. 🙂
  2. Write the fun and steamy romance books that have been rattling around in my brain.
  3. Drink coffee. It’s what authors do.
  4. Share the books with readers who like sassy heroines and book-boyfriend heroes.
  5. Smile a lot in the process, because writing romance is fun.
  6. Did I mention drinking coffee?
  7. Get up tomorrow and do it all again!

In the coming weeks, I’ll be hard at work on The Plan. I’ll be writing my first romance as Janell Michaels during November’s NaNoWriMo, so stay tuned!
